  • The Edit: Sideboards

Blending form and function the Sideboard, also called a buffet, dresser or credenza, made its first appearance in the 18th century. Traditionally used in the dining room for serving food, displaying serving dishes and storage, their modern reincarnations can now be found throughout the house, adding visual interest and valuable storage space to any room. Typically rectangular and waist height, sideboards now come in all shapes and sizes but usually have shorter legs or a base that sits directly on the floor. Originally designed for storing cutlery, china and linens, they historically featured a combination of drawers and cupboards behind doors. Whilst traditional sideboards favoured more ornate designs, with carved wood panels, inlays and decorative hardware their modern counterparts have embraced a more minimalist approach to design, combining simple lines, natural materials and contemporary finishes for a cleaner more understated look. ENGLISH CRAFTSMANSHIP Blending form and function, the modern sideboard is an excellent way of incorporating additional storage and tabletop space to any room. At Rebecca Scott Furniture we have created bespoke sideboard interiors to house everything from crockery to shoes, televisions to cocktail bars. Solid plantation teak adds a warm, natural quality to this practical and beautiful little table, which fits easily into its outdoor setting. • Illuminating Insights: Art Glass Lighting

First recorded in the 1920's, Art glass is the term used for any of the several varieties of glass created using combinations of colours and special effects such as opaqueness and transparency. Created by skilled craftsmen in factories (art glass) or by individual artists in small workshops (studio glass) modern glass studios use a variety of techniques to create glass artworks, from glass blowing through to glass fusing. Committed to keeping the art glass tradition at the forefront of design, the master glass artists at Fine Art Handcrafted Lighting are constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible, integrating a wide variety of glass making techniques with creative metalwork to offer an unlimited range of innovative art glass collections. HANDBLOWN GLASS The art of shaping a mass of glass that has been softened by heat by blowing air into it through a tube. Hand-blown glass is generally thinner and more graceful than machine-made glass which also makes it ideal for making glass shades. The glass artisans at Fine Art have created a number of collections that incorporate freehand glass blowing. Each hand-blown piece is a unique work of art that allows you to create your own unique art glass installation. Natural Inspirations Vesta Collection Nest Collection HAND CAST GLASS The process in which glass objects are formed by directing molten glass into a mold where it solidifies. Modern cast glass can be formed using a variety of processes including kiln casting and casting into sand or metal moulds. The cast glass collections at Fine Art include the glass spires of the Lior Collection which mimic natural crystal formations, the hand-cast crystal with gold leaf of the Terra collection and the studio cast glass that evokes the feel of rock crystal found in the Lunea Collection. Lior Collection Lunea Collection Terra Collection HAND FUSED GLASS The joining together of pieces of glass at high temperature, Most contemporary fusing methods involve stacking or layering thin sheets of glass, often using different colors to create patterns or simple images. The fused glass collections at Fine Art offer a number of different glass effects including a translucent mixture of clear crystal, a creamy opaline glass with gold leaf accents, metallic glass and their signature dual coloured dichroic glass. Elevate Blank Pages Bespoke Glass Bird Elevate Frozen Pages DICHROIC GLASS A form of fused glass favoured by the artisans in the Fine Art glass studio is dichroic glass. Created by stacking layers of metal oxides, dichroic glass has incredible multi-colored and reflective properties and will display more than one color at the same time when viewed with different lighting effects. • Choosing the right Ceiling Canopy

When it comes to choosing a ceiling light, style, design, size and finish are key factors in the decision making process, however it is equally important to consider the location of your fitting and the right mounting canopy to create the look you want to achieve. Home to the not so aesthetic wiring and hardware, the canopies at Fine Art Hand Crafted Lighting are an integral part of the design of the chandelier or pendant. Not only do they reflect design details from the fitting itself but they also incorporate features such as additional downlighting. Offered in an array of shapes, sizes and finishes the canopies are designed to accommodate different ceiling types, mounting locations and also offer multiple hanging options to achieve a desired look. Button Canopy The discreet, button canopy requires minimum space and offers maximum flexibility, suitable for small spaces, narrow beams or for multiple closely spaced fittings. This fitting requires the installer to provide a transformer in the ceiling void above. Dual Mount Canopy The dual mount canopy is by far the most popular as it conceals the transformer and wiring within the canopy itself. Attached directly to the ceiling, the dual mount can be supplied as a round, square or rectangular canopy. Available in various sizes it is perfect for creating your own lighting installation over a dining table, island or to make a statement in an entrance or stairway. For interiors that require a flush mounted canopy the dual mount canopy can be supplied without the inset side wall. From tray to vaulted ceilings, beams to flat ceilings see below how designers have incorporated the Delphi Pendant into their interiors using different canopies to suit the ceiling type and achieve their desired look. As with all Fine Art Handcrafted Lighting products, there is the option to provide canopies in any shape, size or finish. See below for some examples of bespoke pendants with canopies that have been created especially for client projects. Design for Elegance The Springs Country Club, Rancho Mirage Private Residence For more advice about how to choose the right canopy for your project please contact us using the live chat or email us at enquiries@rebeccascott.co.uk.

  • How to Clean your Outdoor Lighting

Don't forget to include your outdoor lighting in your Spring cleaning plans. As with your indoor lighting, regular cleaning will help to protect the high quality finish and keep it looking its best for years to come. See the advice below, provided by our lighting brand "Fine Art Handcrafted Lighting" for a step by step guide on how to clean and care for your exterior lighting. Make sure the lighting is turned off. If needed, secure a ladder near light fixtures you cannot reach from the ground. Remove any globes, shields, or grills with an appropriate tool (most likely a screwdriver); then unscrew and remove the light bulbs (or fluorescent tube). Set all parts aside. Fill two large buckets with hot water and add dish soap. Agitate the water to create suds. Place removed items (not the light bulbs) in one bucket. Saturate a rag or sponge with sudsy water from the second bucket and use that to wipe down the parts of the light fixture that you could not remove. Keep water from running into open sockets. Rinse the fixed pieces with water; remove the loosened pieces from their bucket, wipe them down, and rinse them as well. When all pieces are dry, apply polish or wax to metal parts if desired, use glass cleaner to clean glass globes or shades. Wipe off light bulbs or tubs with a damp rag, being careful not to get the end that screws into the socket wet; then reassemble the light fixtures. For coastal environments, we recommend that all luminaires be cleaned monthly in order to remove the salt and dust that accumulates daily. Rinse fixture with tap water, ensuring any accumulated salt buildup is removed. Adjust water pressure accordingly. Wash surfaces with a medium brush and light soap with PH not higher than 8.5. Rinse again with tap water, adjusting water pressure accordingly. For further information please contact us using the live chat or email us enquiries@rebeccascott.co.uk.
